Skechers Go Walk

What Makes Skechers Go Walk Different From a Standard Trainer

Most trainers are designed for the gym — they're built around running biomechanics, which means they're heavier and stiffer than they need to be for everyday walking. Skechers looked at that gap and built an entire platform specifically around the walking gait: lighter, more flexible, and cushioned in the places that matter for steps rather than strides.

The Go Walk range has been refined over seven generations — we're now at Go Walk 7, which is the most cushioned and responsive yet. The platform sits between a trainer and a walking shoe; structured enough to use on the high street, supportive enough for longer walks without the bulk of a full walking boot.

Are Skechers Go Walk Good for Walking?

Yes — consistently and by a meaningful margin over standard everyday trainers. Independent studies on walking shoe performance have placed Go Walk consistently at the top for cushioning, flexibility, and comfort over extended walks. The platform-style sole absorbs impact efficiently; the wide toe box allows natural toe splay.

Where Go Walk isn't positioned for: technical terrain (trails, uneven ground), high-mileage training (you'd want a proper running shoe), or situations requiring ankle support (for that, look at a walking boot). For everyday city walking, commuting, shopping, and moderate country walks on firm paths, Go Walk is one of the best options in this price bracket.

How Far Can You Walk in Skechers Go Walk?

Most people comfortably walk 5–10 miles in Skechers Go Walk before noticing any fatigue from the shoe rather than their legs. The cushioning doesn't flatten out significantly over a single day's walking, the way some cheaper alternatives do. The Go Walk 7 in particular, with its thicker, higher-rebound sole, performs well over longer distances than earlier iterations.

Beyond 10 miles on hard surfaces, you'd want to consider insoles or a more structured walking shoe. But for the daily walk to the station, a long shopping day, or a tourist day in a city, Go Walk handles it comfortably.

What Is the Difference Between Go Walk and Go Walk 7?

Go Walk is the range name; Go Walk 7 is the current generation. Each generation brings refinements to the sole unit, cushioning material, and upper construction. Go Walk 7 specifically introduced a higher-rebound Hyper Burst foam midsole — noticeably bouncier underfoot than the standard Skechers memory foam used in earlier Go Walk versions. The upper is also more breathable than the Go Walk 5 and 6.

Previous generations remain available at clearance prices while stock lasts — these are still excellent everyday walking shoes and represent good value if you find your size. But if you're buying fresh, Go Walk 7 is the one worth having.

Go Walk for Women vs Men: What's Different?

The technology is the same across men's and women's Go Walk styles. The differences are in the last (foot shape template), colour options, and sizing. Women's Go Walk uses a narrower last with a slightly lower heel-to-toe drop; men's uses a wider last with more volume through the forefoot and midfoot.

Both versions come in wide fit across most styles — the women's wide fit in particular is a reliable choice for anyone who finds standard-width trainers pinch across the forefoot.

Go Walk is also available in Slip-In versions (the hands-free entry system) — useful if you'd rather not deal with laces, particularly for anyone who finds bending down uncomfortable.

FAQ -

Q: Are Skechers Go Walk shoes suitable for wide feet?

Yes — Go Walk comes in wide fit across most styles. The wide fit version has a genuinely broader last, not just a marginally larger shoe. If you have wide feet and find trainers uncomfortable across the forefoot, Go Walk Wide is worth trying.

Q: Can you use orthotics in Skechers Go Walk?

Most Go Walk styles have removable insoles, so you can replace them with custom orthotics from your podiatrist. If the insole isn't removable, the shoe may still fit an orthotic on top, depending on thickness — check the internal depth of the product before ordering.

Q: Do Skechers Go Walk shoes have arch support?

The standard Go Walk sole provides light arch support through the foam midsole contour. If you need clinical arch support, the Skechers Arch Fit range uses a podiatrist-certified insole designed for more significant arch conditions.

Q: How do Skechers Go Walk fit — true to size?

Go Walk generally fits true to size in standard width. The toe box is generous, so there's plenty of forefoot room. If you're between sizes, size down — Go Walk runs slightly long for some people.

Q: Are Skechers Go Walk good for plantar fasciitis?

Many people with plantar fasciitis find the Go Walk comfortable for everyday use. The cushioned sole reduces heel impact, which is helpful. If symptoms are significant, Go Walk plus a heel cushion insert or custom orthotic is a common combination recommended by podiatrists.
