Brantano and Tommy’s – giving every baby the best start
Brantano has been working with Tommy’s, The Baby Charity since 2008 to help fund research into pregnancy problems and save babies lives. Tommy’s is a charity which is close to our hearts at Brantano and so far we have raised a staggering £104,751.48 for Tommy’s!  This is thanks to our hugely successful ‘New for Old’ campaigns and staff fundraising campaigns across all stores nationwide.

About Tommy’s…
Tommy’s exists to save babies lives because right now in the UK one in four women tragically loses a baby during pregnancy or birth.  They fund research into and provide information on the causes and prevention of miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth. Tommy’s work to ensure that every parent has the right to a healthy baby whilst every baby is given the best chance of being born healthy.

The Facts!  Over a year…

• 1 in 4 women tragically lose a baby during pregnancy or birth.
• At least 15% of pregnancies end in a miscarriage.
• 160 babies will be born too soon, too small and will fight for survival.
• 10 mums will knowingly give birth to a stillborn baby.

‘Store Fundraising’

‘New for Old’
2011 saw the return of the hugely successful Brantano New for Old campaign.  Customers are encouraged to bring in their old shoes in any condition and in return Brantano will donate 20p to Tommy’s.  For every pair of shoes donated, customers will receive a £10 off voucher when they spend £40 or more. The New for Old campaigns have been a huge success in the past since the launch in 2008, with celebrities such as Jamelia, Carrie Grant and Nancy Sorrell showing their support and getting involved.  In 2011 New for Old was fronted by top model Nell McAndrew! 
 

Since 2010 Brantano has participated in various staff fundraising events in-store to raise funds and awareness for Tommy’s whilst also having a little bit of fun at the same time. All Brantano stores get involved in various activities from dressing up to baking cakes, and even doing sponsored walks to the top of Mount Snowdon! So far, the store fundraising weekends have raised a total of £66,534.76 for Tommy’s. 

How the money raised by Brantano helps save babies lives…Tommy’s work to fund medical research into the causes of premature births, stillbirths and miscarriages.  They also provide research-based information about pregnancy health to medical professionals and parents-to-be. They fund three research centres in the UK, including St Thomas’ in London, St Mary’s in Manchester and the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh.  Each centre focuses its research efforts on different pregnancy issues. As well as conducting medical research into pregnancy issues, each centre runs clinics for women from across the UK who are at high risk of pregnancy complications. They are the only charity in the UK solely dedicated to finding treatments to prevent problems in pregnancy

By 2030 Tommy’s want to halve the number of babies who die during pregnancy and birth - Brantano hope to help them achieve this. Tommy’s is working incredibly hard to change these statistics and they believe that every pregnancy deserves a happy ending.
